NEW BOOK BY CUBAN AUTHOR
We were delighted to receive as a Christmas
present the new book by Carlos Eire 'Waiting
for Snow in Havana'. The book, in a unique
creative style, describes from the point of view of a 10 year old boy,
life in Havana just before and just after the Castro revolution and the
impact on children who were sent unaccompanied to the United States in
operation "Pedro Pan". Highly recommended to all.
MAMBI VETERANS DATABASE COMPLETED!
April -2003 - We are very happy to announce that
our project to transcribe the 69,770 names
of the veterans of the Cuban
War of Independence (1895-1898) has been completed. This project,
honoring the memory of those who fought to liberate Cuba from the colonial
yoke of Spain, was made possible by the effort of 34 volunteers, working
for nearly 3 years. We want to thank all those who participated in this
project, whose names are listed here.

MAMBI DEATH LISTS NOW ON LINE
We are also have completed the transcription
of the death notices of
the Soldiers that died during the Cuban
War of Independence. These lists are a remarkable historical
and demographic record of the soldiers who fought and died on the
war. The entries, although brief, in most cases contain the age
of the soldier when he joined, where the soldier was born, the
unit he served in, and the place and circumstances of his death.
In many cases the names of one or both parents are also listed.

For your reference, we have added a list of virus threats to our
advice page on computer viruses. This chart, courtesy of the Symantec
Corporation (manufactures of Norton Anti-Virus), is updated daily
by Symantec and shows the the newest and highest threats and also
provides links to the company's free virus removal tools for these
threats. Links are also provided to pages that describe computer
hoaxes so you can check any warnings you receive via e-mail (most
