29 March 2011 - Our belated condolences to the family and friends of Margarita Hannen, who passed away on 10 January 2011, after a long struggle with cancer.

We met Margarita for the first time many years ago, on the Compuserve Hispanic Genealogy Forum, long before the Internet became popular and before the birth of CubaGenWeb. We finally met in person when I was transfered to the San Francisco bay area in 1996 and had dinner at her home in Mill Valley.

Margarita was always willing to help others and contributed the visitor hints to the Masnata Collection at the Otto Richter Library of the University of Miami that are posted on this web site. Margarita moved to Texas in 2005 to be near her daughter, but eventually returned to Mill Valley.

A few years ago we were able to meet her when she visited Miami to say goodbye to her friends and relatives in the area.
