DATA BASE OF PRISONERS AND DEPORTEES DURING WAR OF INDEPENDENCE
Feb 2005 -
Continuing our work in documenting the participants of the Cuban
Liberation Wars, we have added a searchable data base containing
the names of 879 individuals who were either Prisoners of War
or Deportees during the Cuban War of Independence. You can reach

CUBAN GENEALOGY COURSE
Mar 2005 - There will be a seminar/workshop
on the basic elements of Cuban
and Spanish Genealogy on Wednesday,
16 March from 7-9PM at the University
of Miami Koubek Center, 2705 SW 3rd Street, Miami, FL.
This worshop is entirely free of charge and is sponsored by
the Koubek Center of the University of Miami as part of their
cultural and educational programs, and by the Cuban
Genealogy Club of Miami. The workshop will be held in the

NEWSPAPER LISTS DATA BASE
Mar 2005 -
One of our readers, Lydia Reyes, located and
kindly transcribed 2195 names that appeared in lists published
in Cuban Newspapers from the mid 1800's. The lists in many cases
indicate the street address or "barrio" (neighborhood)
where the listed person resided on that date and can serve to
verify residency information. To access this data base use the

PASSENGERS DATA BASE
Mar-Jun 2005 -
Thanks to the efforts of several of our readers, several passenger lists
to and from Cuba have been entered in our new on-line searchable passengers
data base. The information contained in the data base varies depending
on the original source, but generally contains the individual's name, ship's
name and date of voyage or arrival. The data base currently includes the
following:
- 1,205 passengers who sailed form Gijon, Asturias
to Habana and Matanzas in 1840-1871, contributed by Jorge
Piñon Cervera and D. Eduardo Nunez Fernandez.
- 35 passengers who sailed from the Canary Islands
to Habana in 1686, contributed by Miriam Rivera and Dave Chudleigh.
- 706 passengers who arrived or departed Habana from/to
ports in Spain, Mexico and the US in 1842-1876, contributed
by Lydia Reyes.
- 228 passengers who were authorized by the Casa
de Contratación to travel to Cuba in 1567-1599, contributed by the webmaster .
- 262 passengers authorized by the Casa
de Contratacion to travel to Cuba in the years 1514-1566, contributed by Miguel Angel Fernandez Gonzalez. These are the earliest official records of licenses for passengers to Cuba.

Pomares has transcribed a list of 94 marriage records
from the city of Cienfuegos dated 1827-1902.

WORKING PAPERS OF THE COUNT OF JARUCO
Aug 2005 -
The genealogy working papers of the Count of Jaruco
are now available in microfilm at any LDS
Family History Center in the world, thanks
to the work, 33 years ago, of Denise Villareal and
other volunteers at the Hialeah Family History
Center. Volunteers from the Cuban
Genealogy Club of Miami are working to index the
surnames appearing in the four microfilm rolls.

MARRIAGES 1670-1799
Oct 2005 - An updated corrected transcription
of the marriages performed at the Cathedral of
Santiago de Cuba from 1670 to 1799 has been provided
by Jose de Santa Cruz Pacheco y
Rivery. (note that this has been expanded
from the originally posted list which only covered
up to 1750)

Oct 2005 - An annotated list of the 565
original families that founded and populated the
Island of Cuba in the XVI and XVII centuries has
been prepared by Jose de Santa Cruz Pacheco
y Rivery.
SUGAR MILL LIST
Nov 2005 - Our list of Cuban sugar mills has
been updated showing the locality of each mill and
whether it has been dismantled
CABALLERO DE PARIS
Dec 2005 - We have updated the page on
"El Caballero de Paris" with some of the
data from the biography written by his
psychiatrist.
